Dear Friends,

With the Green Line Extension finally opening, connecting more of our neighborhoods to more places, I've been thinking about what this means for our city. It's fantastic to have new subway stations, giving us affordable, safe transit options. Green Line trains can provide many opportunities for people living in the city, but are we doing enough to make our city affordable to people who live here now, and people who want to live here? If our neighborhoods are no longer affordable to immigrants, can we really call ourselves a sanctuary city?

In 2017, I ran for office to lift up our neighbors who are struggling, to make Somerville a place that everyone can call home. Today, despite many great steps forward, we still face many of the same challenges. I am announcing that I am once again running for an At Large seat in the City Council, because there is so much more work to do.

It was a great privilege for me to work on the City Council for 4 years, representing this wonderful community.

Today I am asking for your support once again.

We need to be creative and aggressive in our efforts to create more affordable housing.

We need to address vacant city properties, increase city funding for affordable housing, increase the 20% affordable requirement for bigger projects, and create a community benefits ordinance.

We have opportunities to make our police force more accountable to our community by establishing a civilian oversight board, which the city pledged to create in 2020.

Our city can build on the work of community groups like Somerville Alliance for Safe Streets and the Route 16 Coalition, to make improvements to our sidewalks, crosswalks, and roadways, making them safer for all of us.

There's a lot to do, and I am confident that we can make great strides together. As always, I'm eager to talk to everyone in the city, and hear everyone's perspective. I hope to rejoin the council next year, and get back to work for the people of Somerville.
